Day 11

A Song From Your Favorite Band

I didn’t look too closely at the list when I skimmed through it early in the month, so I already have a song frommy favorite band up here, “America” by Simon and Garfunkel.

Of course, I’m not about to throw caution to the wind and choose a song from my second favorite band… there are rules for a reason, and if I break the rules of a random internet challenge I may get anonymous at my door, and I really don’t want to deal with them.

But obviously I can’t put in my favorite song from Simon and Garfunkel, since I did that already. And I’mnot about to put up my least favorite one… cause then that would involve qualifying songs and make a list, and I don’t have the wherewithal to do that. I like all of their songs and they basically falls into the categories: America, Poem on the Underground Wall, everything else.

So, in the everything else category, I’d like to share with you a song I love, the is along the lines of “We Didn’t Start the Fire” in its own way, dropping names instead of events, of things that were popular and well known at the time (instead of necessarily of historical import). It’s also, according to wikipedia “…considered to be a mocking parody of Bob Dylan’s work.” So… it has that going for it too… though I do like Bob Dylan of course.

So, interestingly enough, there are 2 versions of this song, 1 recorded in London by Paul Simon in 1965, and one recorded by Simon and Garfunkel in 1966.There are differences in both versions, and I’d hate to deprive you of the awesomeness of this song, so I’ll give you both:

A Simple Desultory Philippic

(or How I Was Lyndon Johnsoned/Robert McNamara’d into Submission)
